Spring Brunch
March 31st, 2011
Seattle is lovely right now. It may still be grey out, but my garden beds are bursting with green shoots. And the green buds on all of my Spring bulbs are finally starting to show their buds.

I was in charge of bringing an appetizer to a family dinner this past weekend, and this is no small family we are talking about! I think just with my parents, brothers and sister and spouses and kids we are like 16 people! Jeez. But there was a fantastic sale on picked Dungeness crab at my local grocery store (Met Market for Seattleites) and it put crab cakes on the brain. I thought I would make some mini’s for the party.
For me, this is one of the best desserts I have had in a while. I loooove coconut- like I have a love affair with it. And if you are one of those people that love’s sweet and salty desserts, this is for you.
This is total leftover salad- but in the best possible way!
After the Cookies and Cream Cupcakes I made a few weeks back, I have had extra Oreo cookies lying around in the pantry. I tried to think about what else I could make to use those cookies up…
One of my favorite things to order when we go out for Mexican food is carnita’s- slow cooked pork shoulder. I have been really craving them lately, and when we had our great friends Scott and Danielle over for dinner last week I thought that would be the right time to make them.
If you like sweet and sour and spicy, these pickled onions are incredible! The hot liquid will slightly cook the onions and jalapeno’s, while the sugar and vinegar pickle them. The jalapeno’s release the spice into the pickling liquid.
A few weeks ago my husband and I skipped town for a few days *gasp* by our selves! My mom stayed with the girls (bless her heart) and somewhere during those few days got it in Pia’s head that we needed to make doughnuts again (thanks mom!).
In honor of St. Patricks day and because I feel Spring fast approaching, I was craving something fresh and green. I thought about Pizza, and about figuring out how to make a *bright* green pizza, or, well four different types of bright green Pizza!
A few months ago, I made some really fantastic lemon bars. So when I recently threw a baby shower, I was planning to make them for the party. But when the theme of the shower turned out to be green and pink, I took the bars in a slightly different direction- lime.
