Easy Summer Tablescape
July 19th, 2010
Literally so easy, a two year old could do it. I know this because Pia, my two year old (ok, almost 3 year old!) did all the flowers and fruit completely by herself!! I did purchase the ingredients, and give her some direction- but the point is that anyone can do this.
We had a dinner party last weekend, and the weather was so beautiful that I wanted to have everyone eat outside. I set the outdoor table with a good white linen tablecloth and napkins, Lucite silverware and my everyday white square plates.
I purchased the big bunch of dark purple sweet pea’s at pike place market ($20 for a whole bucket full!). The Italian Plums, Figs and Blackberries were all at Costco (Really! And yes, it was the same trip as the Campari tomatoes from “Roasted Tomato Basil Soup 7/10). So, this was an economical table.
Once I had lugged everything home and put it on the kitchen counter, I hit my platter/vase stores in the basement. I just left Pia with a pile of tarnished silver bowls and votives in assorted sizes and then a bunch of vases in the style of mint julep cups. She did the rest!
I clustered the bowls and flowers on the table, and used pale pink fleur de lys glasses (anthropologie.com) and bright green Pelegrino bottles to add contrast to all of the purple and white. I don’t really have a great shot of the end result because the guests started eating the fruit IMMEDIATLEY! But hopefully you will get the idea and can reuse it your home or it will inspire something new!
