Homemade Thank You

Homemade Thank You
IMG_7481

I don’t usually do posts like this (crafty), and I wasn’t sure if this would appeal to you guys? (please let me know if it does!) But as it is something I L-O-V-E to do, I thought that it might be interesting to some of you ?

This is really an ode to the homemade thank you. I am a firm believer in doing something special when someone has done something special for you. In the age of technology, sometimes it feels as if there are so few ways to make that gesture anymore -at least in ways that feel truly from the heart.

I had a group of women recently that gave me a valuable gift of their time (sometimes the most precious gift of all!) and I wanted more than anything to show them how much that meant to me. This was what I came up with:

If you are interested in sending out a thank you, or even just a homemade gift for a friend or neighbor- maybe consider this method!

I took a wine box in plain wood and covered it in pretty hand made papers and different types of ribbon.

I stuffed it with tissue and my favorite summer cookie recipe, Dark chocolate with fresh mint (recipe this Friday!)

There are endless options, and if you are interested I will share some of them with you!

I love this idea! I was planning on sending a box of cookies along with a thank you card to some lovely ladies who threw me a baby shower this past weekend. The wine box is much more creative and heartfelt than just a plain box! THANK YOU! Please continue adding more crafty post.

I know- I am always short on time too- but it wasn’t that bad-just the extra wrapping!
(Double sided tape is my friend for these- glue is too messy and hard to dry)

Packaging Specialties, but I bet lots of crafting stores or wine supply stores would have them. I also bet that some wine stores have them for free after the wine has been unpacked.

I LOVE these! What a wonderful idea. I love to bake and recently decided to make small treats each day and give them away…to teachers, local heros (like firemen, the school nurse, my elderly neighbor, etc) as a little unexpected surprise. I love the reaction when I give a little baked gift to someone – what great smiles!! I just may have to start wrapping these treats in your beautiful boxes. I do have a couple of questions: did you add the button and ribbon? Is the button how you close the box? Was all of this from a craft store? In your opinion, Is it difficult or fairly easy to put together?

    As always, thanks for sharing!!

  21. Heather Christo says:

Jennifer- you are so sweet! I am sure you are greatly appreciated :)

The button was already there, along with a leather cord. But I undid the small screw holding that part together and removed the leather cord. I covered the button in a round red sticker and folded the edges under. Before putting the button back on the screw, I wrapped the large red and white striped ribbon around it, and pushed the screw through the ribbon. What is holding it together is one of the smaller ribbons which is tied around the button, and then looped around the package. Did that make sense?!

I got the wine box at the craft store, and had the papers and ribbons and round stickers at home- but obviously those are all easy things to find. The paper stuck to the box with double sided tape.

I would say that it was pretty easy. The only “complex” (not very!) thing was measuring the paper to be the right size to fit around the box- not bad right?

I love this idea. Anytime I want to do something special for someone or say thank you I always think in terms of food. I pay my babysitters (friends) for date nights by making them dinner and sending them home with frozen homemade cookies for later. I am always looking for great packaging ideas to make it more special. I have been reading your blog for a few weeks now and I love it. Thank you for sharing your passion with us.
